Chapter 11

Shaun

I can’t fucking believe what I did last night. I want to blame it on the tall stout, but underneath the drink, I know I have desires for Kiera. Desires I’ve had since I met her at the Mackenzie estate.

I devoured her like she was a meal, and I was merely a starving man, desperate for anything. God, she tasted so sweet, and the way her body lit up with every touch of my hands. It was invigorating, and it only made me want to go back for more. I’m doing my best to keep negative thoughts at bay right now, especially since I’m attending a weekend holiday with her and the girls. I need to be present, in the moment, having fun with the lot of them.

“Mum! Are we going where I think we are?” Una questions, jumping up and down excitedly.

I turn and look over at Kiera, who’s finishing up some scrambled eggs. She plops them down on each of our plates, and I don’t take a moment to breathe before I dig in. Kiera is a damn good cook, and I’m certain there isn’t anything she isn’t good at.

“We could be. I don’t know where you think we’re going,” Kiera’s obviously messing with Una, and Una pauses for a moment before speaking up.

“Well, I’d like to think we’re going to an alpaca farm. You talked about it the other day when we were looking at things to do! Tell me we’re going, please,” Una pleads with her mum, while Fia is seemingly getting more annoyed by the moment.

“Mum, please tell her we are so she can stop whining about it,” Fia grunts, and Kiera twists her head around so fast to look at Fia. Shite, I remember back in the day when my adoptive mum did the same to me as a wee lad.

“Fia, where are your manners?”

“I don’t know. I think I left them back in Dublin.” Wow. I would’ve been popped across the mouth if I ever dared to speak to my mum in this manner. I do have to remember Fia is a preteen girl, and I’m certain she’s beginning to get sassier from hormones. Sarai sure did at this age. I remember that time very clearly. She and my mum were at each other’s throats for quite a while.

“You’d better find them right quick, or I’m going to make sure you don’t have a lick of fun the rest of this trip. Say, maybe I can get the farmers to let you shovel alpaca poop while we all have a good time. How about that?”

“We are going to the farm!” Una jumps up and down a few more times, so excited she’s going to see the alpacas. Meanwhile, Fia locks her eyes on her mother.

“All right, I’m sorry for being rude. Happy?”

“No, I most certainly am not. I’m not the only person you need to apologize to.”

Fia huffs and turns to look at her sister. “I’m sorry, Una.”

“It’s okay! We’re going to
